In the United States, swimming ranks as the third most popular sports activity, according to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention. However, pool water is a breeding ground for waterborne bacteria, requiring treatment with chemicals, such as chlorine, designed to protect swimmers. However, these chemicals can damage hair. There are several shampoos made especially for swimmers that protect hair by stripping away chlorine, dirt and other harmful properties found in pool water.

UltraSwim Chlorine Removal Shampoo

UltraSwim makes shampoo for pool swimmers who care about their hair, according to the company's website. It is designed to fight chlorine and other chemicals. Containing humectants, vitamin E, moisturizers and aloe, this shampoo removes chlorine, odor, metal deposits and dirt. Swimmers with professionally colored or curled hair can safely use UltraSwim's shampoo. The company uses lab results from testing conducted in 2001 to back their claim that their shampoo's formula removes chlorine molecules from hair. As of 2010, the estimated retail price for UltraSwim's Chlorine Removal Shampoo is approximately $4.95 for a 7 oz. bottle.
