The most common and serious side effects include blood clots, heart attack, stroke and gallbladder disease.
See your physician immediately if you experience any symptoms which may be related to the use of Yaz.
Blood Clot
Blots clots are a serious side effect experienced by many women who take Yaz. Blood clots are clumps that form in your blood when tiny cells called platelets come togther. Blood clots are beneficial when you have a cut and clotting makes it stop bleeding. They are harmful when they occur in the middle of one of your blood vessels. Yaz causes these harmful clots in your bloodstream that block nutrient-rich blood from getting to all the parts of your body it needs to go. According to Drugs.com, the most common and dangerous places for Yaz-caused clots include in your legs, lungs, head and heart. Symptoms to watch out for if you are concerned you may have a clot include sudden, severe aches and pains, unusual swelling and coughing blood.
Heart Attack
Heart attack is another serious side effect that may be caused by taking Yaz. Most heart attacks are caused by blood clots in the heart, according to Mayo Clinic. When one or more of the blood vessels that supply necessary oxygen and nutrients to the muscles of the heart is blocked by a clot, your heart cannot function properly.
High blood pressure is another factor that contributes to your risk of heart attack, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Drugs.com states that high blood pressure is a common side effect of taking Yaz--another reason why this medicine may cause heart attack.
Stroke
Stroke is another debilitating and potentially deadly side effect associated with Yaz use, according to the Yaz Side Effects Lawsuit. Stroke occurs when one of more of the blood vessels that nourishes your brain is blocked or bleeding. Since your brain controls the entire body, stroke can harm everything from your ability to speak to your ability to breathe.
Symptoms to watch for include sudden headache, confusion and inability to control motor coordination and speech.
Gallbladder Disease
Diseases of the gallbladder are another dangerous side effect often caused by Yaz. Your gallbladder is a sac under your liver that contains a substance called bile that helps your body digest fat. Yaz can cause build up to occur in your gall bladder—called gallstones. These stones can grow large and block the bile from leaving your gallbladder and helping digest your food properly.
According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, symptoms of gall bladder disease include pain—especially after you have just eaten and localized on the upper right side of your abdomen—as well as loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting. Consult your physician if you suspect you have gallstones as medicine or even surgery is often necessary to treat them.
