Bags under the eyes give a person a tired appearance. Although lack of sleep can cause baggy eyes, other factors include allergies, aging and hormonal changes. In most cases, under the eye bags are not a sign of a serious condition and can be treated naturally at home. However, the “Doctors Book of Home Remedies” featured on the Mother Nature website suggests contacting a doctor if the eye puffiness last for more than a week or you have eye pain or redness.

Diet

Getting rid of foods that cause water retention may provide relief to your under-eye bags. When you have a lot of sodium in your diet, the excess fluid retained may accumulate in the facial area. Salty foods to avoid include soy sauce, processed meats, frozen dinners, canned goods and snack chips. When you prepare meals, limit the amount of salt you add to recipes. Drinking a lot of alcohol also causes water retention.

Fingertip Massage

The “Doctors Book of Home Remedies” recommends using a tapping motion with your fingers to naturally get rid of eye bags. The motion is intended to get rid of fluid that may have become trapped in that area. Perform the tapping gently for several minutes on both the upper and lower lid of each eye.

Teabags

To treat baggy eyes naturally, use teabags moistened with cold water. Putting cold water on the teabags and placing them around the eye area reduces swelling while the tannin found in the tea may help pull skin taut. Leave the teabags in place for at least 15 to 20 minutes before discarding.

Cucumber Slices

Refrigerate a cucumber and cut two slices to place over each eye when you are suffering from under eye bags. The coolness of the cucumber slices eases puffiness in the eye area. Leave the slices on for approximately 10 minutes.
