Allergies may appear in both the spring and fall leading to a variety of symptoms including nasal congestion, itchy or watery eyes, coughing, and even physical symptoms such as rashes. Homeopathic remedies are chosen based on the allergy symptoms as well as disposition in many cases. These remedies are especially useful in children due to their safety and efficacy. While homeopathic remedies are generally regarded as safe, you should seek the advice of a licensed homeopath or other health professional with experience in homeopathic remedies before use.

Allium Cepa

This homeopathic remedy is indicated for allergies that are accompanied by violent sneezing episodes, a burning sensation in the nose, and a profuse nasal discharge that may lead to a reddened, raw upper lip. According to Dr. Carolyn Dean, allium may be the remedy of choice for a child when symptoms are relieved with cold facial compresses. The remedy should be administered in the 30C potency every ½ to 2 hours when symptoms first appear. The frequency of dosing may be reduced as the symptoms improve.

Pulsatilla

The pulsatilla remedy may be needed in cases where a child’s allergies result in a post nasal drip, or when large amounts of yellow to green mucus are discharged due to a resulting sinus infection. When nasal congestion becomes worse from being indoors, this may be the remedy of choice. According to Dr. Ellen Feingold, this homeopathic remedy may be called for in those who regularly feel warm or hot, but do not experience thirst. The 30C potency remedy should be taken every ½ to 2 hours until symptoms improve, at which time the frequency may be decreased. A 200C potency of the remedy may be taken once daily throughout the allergy season to ward off recurrent allergic reactions.

Natrum Muriaticum

According to Dr. Carolyn Dean, natrum muriaticum may relieve the suffering child with lips that are dry and cracked, with possible upper lip infection, and painful boils found in the nose. Other indications for the use of this homeopathic remedy include alternating nasal symptoms. The nose may be congested at one point, then become runny with sneezing. A headache may be present, along with the possibility for either cravings or aversions to salty foods. Natrum muriaticum may be taken in a 30C potency every ½ to 2 hours until the symptoms start to improve. Taking the remedy once daily in a 200C potency may help to keep allergy symptoms at bay throughout the allergy season.
