The Proform 700 is an elliptical crosstrainer designed for use in an aerobic workout. The device consists of a pair of pedals attached to handlebars, a base unit and a control console; a motor inside the base unit provides variable levels of resistance when exercising. If your Proform 700 no longer functions as desired, the problem may lie with a loose connection or a faulty component. With the help of a couple of basic hand tools, you can partially disassemble your Proform 700 and carry out the necessary repairs.
Console Troubleshooting
Step 1
Open the battery cover, located on the rear of the console. Replace the existing batteries with four new ones; check the diagram printed on the battery cover to confirm that the batteries are properly aligned.
Step 2
Remove the screws securing the console to the elliptical's upright. Lift the console upwards and check that the wire harness is properly connected.
Step 3
Lower the console and use the previously removed screws to secure it back into place.
Belt Replacement
Step 1
Remove the bolts securing the left and right flex bars to their brackets. Slide the ends of the bars out of the brackets, then remove the brackets from the elliptical.
Step 2
Remove the screws securing the left and right pedal discs and side shields in place; remove the discs and shields and set them aside. Remove the screws and bolts securing the left and right crank arms to the pulley; remove the crank arms and set them aside.
Step 3
Remove the belt from the pulley. Slide the flywheel towards the front of the elliptical and work the belt free. Install the replacement belt, then return the flywheel to its original location.
Step 4
Replace the crank arms, and use the previously removed screws and bolts to secure them back into place; repeat with the side shields and pedal discs.
Step 5
Reinsert the flex bar brackets into the pedal discs. Use the previously removed bolts to secure the flex bars back into place.
Motor Replacement
