A wart is simply a thickened area on the skin that is formed because of the human papilloma virus, also known as HPV, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. There are over 100 types of HPV. Some of the warts, such as facial warts, can clear up pretty quickly while others are difficult to cure. Since there is not treatment that is effective on warts all the time, you may find it easier to go with a home remedy. Before using any home remedies, ensure that the area to be treated is really a wart and not something serious, like cancer of the skin.
Folk Remedies
There are a number of folk remedies that can be used as a possible treatment for facial warts. Milkweed juice, vitamin E oil, aloe vera juice and clove oil are some examples. You may need to experiment with the remedies as a treatment that works for one person may not necessarily work for another. Before applying any of these options to your wart, you should use an emery board to take away the dead skin that is covering the wart. Take extra care when using the emery board so you don't accidentally break the live skin. By doing this, you will make it easier for the treatment that you choose to be able to penetrate down to the root of the wart without being impeded by extra skin.
Duct Tape
Duct tape, which is often referred to as the working man's friend, has been found to treat warts effectively, according to a study reported on by the Mayo Clinic. Using a small piece of duct tape, cover the wart and leave alone for a few days. Take the tape off and then use warm water to soak the infected area and rub it using a pumice stone or emery board. This duct tape therapy is successful because the tape irritates the wart and causes the immune system to attack it. If you are using this method on a child, you can cut the tape in a fun shape, such as a heart or star.
Do Nothing
The Mayo Clinic states that most warts go away by themselves, leaving behind little to no after effects. This method will not work for someone wanting to be rid of the wart as soon as possible, as it can sometimes take months, or years in some cases, for the wart to fully fall off. A wart generally causes no pain or harm and as long as they are not cut open, they won't spread to other areas of your body.
