Thick or thin, pear-shaped or apple, the majority of women battle cellulite. Cellulite may be the result of a genetic predisposition, hormonal imbalance or lack of exercise and a high-fat diet. There is no cure for cellulite, but there are many cellulite reduction products on the market claiming miraculous results in getting rid of cellulite. While no cellulite reduction product will eliminate cellulite completely, there are some anti-cellulite products that, when combined with a healthy diet and cardiovascular and toning exercises, can significantly reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Anti-Cellulite Creams

Most anti-cellulite creams contain caffeine, retinol and the antioxidant DMAE. According to Len Kravitz, Ph.D., topical creams containing caffeine can help the body break down stored fat. He acknowledges, however, that the levels of caffeine in topical creams and the rate of absorption are not high enough to generate a substantial reduction in cellulite.

Any effective cellulite cream will contain retinol, a vitamin A derivative that increases collagen production and exfoliates the skin, diminishing the appearance of cellulite. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Dermatology in 2000 found that participants who applied a retinol cream for six months experienced an 11 to 15 percent increase in skin firmness. DMAE, an antioxidant obtained from fish oil, is purported to enhance muscle tone and firmness.

Cellulite Massager

Cellulite massagers are designed to dislodge fat deposits, smoothing and firming the skin. Daily use of a cellulite massager is believed to stimulate blood circulation and tone the skin. Cellulite massagers may have stationary or motorized nodules that massage the skin simultaneously. Some nodules are round, while others are pointy. Some massagers are fancier than others, adding heat and vibration to the mechanism. Applying oils or creams a few minutes before using your cellulite massager is thought to increase cellulite reduction.

Cellulite Supplements

There are many pills on the market specifically designed for cellulite reduction. The most helpful vitamin in cellulite reduction is vitamin C. Vitamin C is necessary for collagen production and helps strengthen the skin’s connective tissues. Researchers at the Université Lyon, France, Department of Dermatology published findings in the 2008 edition of “Experimental Dermatology” demonstrating that vitamin C considerably improves wrinkles, smoothness, suppleness, firmness and skin tone. Vitamin E, selenium and calcium are additional vitamins and minerals that appear in many cellulite supplements.

Body Wraps

Cellulite body wraps are offered at spas and salons, but can also be performed at home with an at home body wrap kit. Body wraps claim to reduce girth and shed pounds by reducing fluid retention. While medical experts admit that excessive perspiration may lead to a loss of inches and pounds, this weight loss is temporary and will be regained once the body is replenished with fluids.

Anti-Cellulite Panties

According to Medical News Today, too tight undies and pants may induce cellulite. It was only a matter of time then, that manufacturers turned the cause into a remedy by producing anti-cellulite underwear. The Solidea MicroMassage Magic Pantie and the Solidea Anti-Cellulite Silver Wave Corsaro are examples of garments designed to let the skin breathe while reducing the appearance of cellulite. While there is no medical proof that clothing can reduce cellulite, anti-cellulite fabrics can certainly help shape the body without contributing to further cellulite production.
