Winstrol is the brand name of Stanozolol, which is an oral anabolic steroid. Winstrol has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for human use, but several side effects have been reported by male users of Winstrol.
Testicular Atrophy
One of the side effects of Winstrol is a condition called hypogonadism, which is a decrease in luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulation hormone (FSH) and testosterone. Even a moderate decrease in LH and FSH can decrease the size of the testicles and decrease sperm count, according to Steroidabuse.com. This condition often reverses several months after men stop taking Winstrol.
Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia, or enlarged breasts, is another side effect of Winstrol. Gynecomastia is caused by increased levels of estrogen in males. This condition is often irreversible without surgery.
Male Pattern Baldness
Male pattern baldness is another side effect of Windrol. Winstrol causes an increase in a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which has an adverse affect on hair follicles and hair production. Male pattern balding is a cosmetic effect and not a health risk.
Prostate Enlargement
Winstrol can also cause the prostate to enlarge. An enlarged prostate presses on the urethra, causing pain and problems with urinating. This condition increases the risk of developing prostate cancer.
Aggression
Increased aggression, or roid rage, is a common side effect of Winstrol. Although rare, some users have become violent, depressed or psychotic when taking Winstrol, according to an article by Fred Hartgens in "Sports Medicine."
