The body needs nutrients for the metabolism of food. Nutrients help the body to function at an accurate and optimum level. Food substances break down quicker and more efficiently with on-going influences of nutrients found in vitamins and minerals. Nutrient supplements can be purchased over the counter to compensate for dietary deficiencies. The efficient break down of fats and sugars help with weight loss and calorie burning. The most important vitamins that influence weight loss include B vitamins and vitamin C.

Riboflavin

Human metabolism requires vitamin B2 or riboflavin to help the thyroid gland function properly. Basically, the thyroid needs to function well and efficiently for metabolism to occur at a rate for a person to lose weight. Riboflavin naturally occurs in foods such as eggs, milk, almonds, liver and green leafy vegetables.

Niacin

The B3 vitamin nutrient, also known as niacin, influences the thyroid's production of thyroxin, which is necessary for the body's continued functioning within its normal metabolic rate. For example, the body needs this hormone to digest food properly and for the intestines to have enough motility to help the body remove its waste. Niacin naturally occurs in oats, barley, eggs, meat, chicken and turkey.

Pantothenic Acid

Vitamin B5 nutrients, or pantothenic acid, helps the body's production of energy and the function of the adrenal gland, which aids in the break down of fats. Foods that contain pantothenic acid include meat, poultry, liver, eggs, molasses, oats and barley.

Pyridoxine

Pyridoxine, also called vitamin B6, also helps in the regulation of the thyroid hormone thyroxin and the metabolism of the human body. Sources of this vitamin nutrient include bananas, brown rice, cabbage, molasses, eggs and poultry.

Choline

Choline or vitamin B complex comes from the liver and contains a combination of the B vitamins, all necessary for fat metabolism. Choline can be found in cucumber, peanuts, egg yolks, beef and lecithin.

Inositol

The part of the B complex nutrient called inositol is produced within the human body, according to the American Dietetic Association. This B nutrient works in combination with choline to achieve the break down of fats in the body. Inositol is found in wheat germ, eggs, soy, citrus fruits and nuts.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C has many influences within the human body that produce therapeutic effects such as the metabolism of glucose into energy, American Dietetic Association reports. Foods that contain vitamin C include green peppers, lemons, oranges, strawberries, broccoli and kiwi fruits.
