A nebulizer is a medical tool that converts liquid medicines into a mist that can be inhaled through a mouthpiece or mask. Various types of medicines can be used in this manner. Cleaning the nebulizer on a regular basis is important to kill bacteria that can infect nebulizer users.
Step 1
Disconnect all parts of the nebulizer, including the mouthpiece, the T-connector, medicine cup and tubing.

Rinse all parts under warm running water for 30 seconds. Asthma Initiative of Michigan suggests using sterile or distilled water for this step when possible. Don't wash or rinse the tubing.
Step 3
Shake the parts to get rid of extra water. Allow to dry on a clean towel or paper towels.
Step 4
Reconnect the nebulizer parts, including the mask or mouthpiece, to the T-connector and the tubing. Run the machine for 10 to 20 seconds to dry out the inner parts of the nebulizer.
Step 5
Disconnect the tubing and store it in a sealed plastic bag.
Step 6
Disconnect all other parts and wash them in a mild dishwashing soap. Use the specialty brushes or tools that have been approved for use with the specific brand of machine. These are typically available where the machine was purchased or via special order.
Step 7
Pour one part distilled white vinegar into two parts distilled water. Soak all parts, except the tubing, in the solution for 30 minutes.
Step 8
Rinse all parts, shake them to get rid of excess water and place them on a towel or paper towels to dry.
Step 9
Store the clean, dry parts in sealed plastic bag until the next use.
