Sports festivals, bike trails, mountain hikes and healthy relaxation are abundant in the central Ohio city of Columbus. Take a hike along the Olentangy River, walk through a kangaroo habitat, or bike around the historic German Village.
Sports Town
Columbus is host to several prominent sports events each year. Nutrition and fitness education is an important component of the the Arnold Sports Festival, held every March in downtown Columbus. The weekend event includes exhibits on nutrition, fitness, and sporting equipment. The festival also hosts 18,000 athletes in 44 sporting events. Additionally, a major PGA Tour event, the Memorial Tournament, occurs every spring in the Columbus suburb of Dublin.

Road biking is another option for bikers. Teutonic Village Volksbike, a popular road trail located south of downtown Columbus, winds through 4 miles of the historic German Village.
Nature Walks
Columbus has miles of walking trails. Break a sweat and hike the 7-mile Heritage Trail or head over to the Slate Run Park for a 6.6-mile walk through its oak forest. The Columbus Zoo & Aquarium offers a walking opportunity in conjunction with experiencing kangaroos up close. The Kangaroo Walkabout allows visitors to walk around the kangaroo habitat while kangaroos immerse themselves in their daily activities. The walkabout is approximately 1/2 mile in diameter.
Hiking Trails
If you are looking for more a intense physical activity, hiking a Columbus area trail may be the perfect day trip. A 5.8-mile hike through forests, riverbanks and pioneer artifacts are a signature feature of the connected Overlook and Dripping Rock Trails. The trail also features large shale rocks that line Olentangy River. If you're looking for a mountain hike, Baker Hill Summit is the only mountain peak in Columbus. At an elevation of 791 feet, Baker Hill Summit is considered a moderately difficult climb.
