Things to Do in Scioto County, Ohio

Scioto County features some of the largest metropolitan cities in Ohio including Columbus, Cincinnati and Dayton. All three offer a wealth of recreational options no matter the time of year. Hike through the state parks year-round, visit one of the many museums and historical sites or stop by Hamilton County Park District in Cincinnati to take a ride on one of the many biking and rollerblading trails available for you to enjoy.

Biking

Visit the paved biking trails at the Hamilton County Park District in Cincinnati, Ohio. The park provides four trails ranging in length from 1 mile to 9 miles. All of the trails take you on scenic tours through the forest area, and bicycles can be rented if you do not have your own. Alum Creek State Park near Columbus, Ohio, offers visitors a 14-mile bike trail with views of the reservoir and woodlands.

Hiking

East Fork State Park in Cincinnati, Ohio, is one of the largest in the state. It offers visitors an impressive 32-mile perimeter trail that can be used by backpackers, hikers and equestrians. In addition, there are four hiking only trails ranging in length from 1/2 mile to 2 miles in length and two backpacking or hiking trails that are 1 mile and 14 miles in length, respectively. Stonelick State Park is located just north of East Fork and includes four trails that range in length from 1 mile to 2 miles.

Museums

Experience the rich history behind the city of Dayton, Ohio. The Carillon Historical Park is a 65-acre campus that includes 25 special exhibit buildings for you to explore. You can view vintage automobiles, train cars, bicycles and the 1905 Wright Flyer III. Visitors can also take a tour through Hawthorn Hill, Orville Wright's home of 35 years, or the influential Patterson Homestead.

Zoos

The Cincinnati Zoo was rated in the top 10 best zoos for kids by "Parents Magazine." With more than 27 exhibits and areas to explore, this is one walking adventure the entire family can enjoy. Hike through the wolf woods exhibit, where guests can see Mexican wolves and river otters, or through the new African Savannah exhibit, which includes giraffes and cheetahs.

Golfing

The Beavercreek Golf Club in Dayton, Ohio, offers guests a public golf facility with a private club feel. Enjoy the scenic backdrop of woodlands and streams while playing on the challenging course. Upon reservation, you can partake in special classes or comprehensive camps to help you achieve you personal best. The Legendary Run Golf Course in Cincinnati, Ohio, has panoramic views of over 200 acres and includes six picturesque lakes.
