Whether you are looking for a rustic patch of land to pitch your tent, a family-friendly resort with amenities or a wooded site to park your RV for the summer, Door County has something for you. Start planning your vacation here by familiarizing yourself with specific campgrounds that fit your camping preferences.
State Park Camping with Amenities
Potawatomi State Park and Peninsula State Park offer traditional camping experiences with limited amenities. Potawatomi State Park has 123 family campsites of which 25 have electricity, two RV/trailer accessible sites, as well as one fully-accessible cabin. A highlight of this park is the observation tower, which overlooks Lake Michigan. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources website also suggests exploring the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.
Peninsula State Park is Wisconsin’s “most complete” state park, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. It has 468 campsites, 101 of which are electric, an outdoor theater, an 18-hole golf course, a lighthouse and beautiful sand beaches.
Rustic State Park Camping
Newport State Park offers a quiet, rustic alternative to large campgrounds. There are only 16 backpack-accessible campsites in the 2,373-acre park, 13 of which can be reserved. At Newport State Park you can enjoy forests, wetlands and meadows and 38.3 miles of trails. Winter camping, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing allow you to experience nature all year round.
Rock Island State Park is located off the tip of the Door County Peninsula, and offers a camping experience like no other in Wisconsin. You must take two ferries to get to Rock Island State Park, and once there, wheeled vehicles are not permitted. There are 40 campsites, and fire rings, picnic tables and pit toilets provided.
Private Campgrounds
There are several large private campgrounds in Door County which have hundreds of campsites and offer many more amenities than the State Parks. The Door County Guide rates Quitewoods North Camping Resort, Yogi Bear Jellystone Park and Door County Camping Retreat as the best family-oriented campgrounds. You may also want to check out Bailey’s Grove Travel Park and Campground, Wagon Trail Campground and Frontier Wilderness Campground. This type of large private campground typically offers laundry, Wi-Fi, electricity, heated showers, swimming pool and games. Many have cabins and yurts available for rent, too.
RV Resorts
While many of the private campgrounds listed above are RV accessible, there are a few that specifically cater to RVs and trailers. Hy-Land Court RV Park, Aqualand Camp Resort, Egg Harbor Campground and RV Resort and Tranquil Timbers RV Resort all offer single night and seasonal rates. According to the official websites of these resorts, they offer much the same amenities as large private campgrounds and many organize events and activities for patrons.
