The weather in Seattle in March tends to be windy and unpleasant, with daily highs averaging 53 degrees Fahrenheit and nightly lows averaging 40 degrees. It also tends to rain a lot. Don’t be alarmed, though, if you plan on traveling to Seattle during this month. While you won’t want to spend a lot of time outdoors, the city boasts numerous indoor options for health and fitness fans.
Healthy Eats & Kayaking
Seek shelter from the rain and cold and settle in for a meal at one of Seattle’s healthier eating establishments. The Aqua Verde Café specializes in Baja-inspired organic fare. Even better, it is situated on Portage Bay and operates its own paddle club, with kayaking rentals year-round. The best paddle conditions often occur during light rains, which are frequently characteristic of the Seattle weather in March.
Spa & Wellness
Gray weather can often be a major mood-killer. One way of recovering your wits and rejuvenating your soul is to spend the day sweating out those toxins and being pampered at a health spa. Ananya, in the Belltown neighborhood, has made it into Citysearch’s Top Ten every year between 2005 and 2009, and offers spas, massage services, hair removal and facial treatments. Spa Noir, also in Belltown, is the place to head for energizing body wraps and foot massages.
Indoor Fitness
You might not be able to hike and bike this time of year, but you can still get your cardio in and stick to your fitness regimen at one of Seattle’s indoor fitness centers. Seattle Fitness, on South King Street, offers visitors a free one-week trial membership.
Spectator Sports
March is the kickoff for the soccer season in Seattle, with local team Seattle Sounders FC playing its home games at the Qwest Field. It’s also the time of year when the hockey season begins winding down; try and catch the Seattle Thunderbirds in action at the ShoWare Center.
Places to Stay
Kimpton Hotels is a green hotel chain that goes out of their way to work towards an eco-friendly standard for all its properties. In Seattle, it boasts three hotels: the Alexis, Hotel Monaco and Hotel Vintage Park. The third features an on-site fitness center and offers guests free hand massages in their rooms every Wednesday.
