Beaches in Texas

America is home to a plethora of coastal destinations that are well known for its beaches. Though one of the most popular beach states in the country are found within the island regions of Hawaii, there are many beaches in the domestic United States. Both California and Florida are both well-known for its beaches and beach activities. Texas too that has several options for visiting a beach in different areas of the state.

Padre Island National Seashore

Padre Island National Seashore is situated along the southern coast of Texas and equals a total of 70 miles of beaches. This beach destination is 43 miles away from the Corpus Christi International Airport. Padre Island national Seashore is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The visitors’ center is opened everyday Available activities include camping, fishing, birding, beachcombing and swimming.

Port Aransas

Port Aransas offers visitors redfish fishing, boating, shelling, kayaking and bird watching. As the only established town on Mustang Island, which is north of Padre Island, this destination is located on eight miles of shoreline. Port Aransas is home to an unspoiled beach that is a popular year-round attraction. Additional recreational activities include windsurfing, kite-boarding, para-sailing, jet skiing, surfing and golfing. In addition to its recreational activities, Port Aransas has dining, shopping and lodging available to guests, as well.

Sea Rim State Park

Sea Rim State Park is comprised of 4,141 acres of marshland and approximately six miles of beach along the Gulf of Mexico. This particular location has been opened to the public since 1972. D. Roy Harrington Beach Unit is one of two units at Sea Rim State Park, the other of which is the Marshlands Unit. The Beach Unit, as it is referred to, includes open beach for bike riding, hiking, fishing and beach combing. Along with its recreation, the Gambusia Nature Trail and The Willow Pond Birding Trail are also located here.

South Padre Island

South Padre Island is advertised as having the widest and cleanest beaches in Texas with acclaims in Men’s Fitness and the Conde Nast Traveler. There are several fitness classes available that are held by a certified fitness instructor two days a week. In additions to fitness classes, South Parde Island is home to the Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark, which is located between the dunes and wetlands on the island. Also, Sonny’s Beach Service offers visitors boat rides, tennis and wave runner and para-sailing rentals.

Stewart Beach

Located in Galveston, Stewart Beach is a family-friendly beach park that features a children’s playground, volleyball courts and an outdoor pavilion. There are scheduled events available such as the Seawalk Fun Run/Walk that is a series of races ranging from 10k to 5k to 1k.
