Many motorcycle enthusiasts enjoy taking trips to Oklahoma, because the state offers a wide variety of terrain and outdoor recreational activities. According to Motorcycle Roads, Oklahoma has flat prairie grasslands, four primary mountain ranges and the most manmade lakes in America. If you are planning a camping trip to this state, there are many areas and activities to add to an itinerary.

Arbuckle Wilderness

The Arbuckle Wilderness area in the south central part of Oklahoma is a popular camping location for Oklahoma and Texas residents. This area features natural springs, swimming holes and several campgrounds. Turner Falls Park offers hiking and swimming opportunities, while many people boat and camp in the surrounding Arbuckle Mountains. Campers may can choose from primitive tent campgrounds or rent rustic cabins.

Beavers Bend State Park

Located in the southeastern Oklahoma, Beavers Bend State Park is another popular park for motorcyclists and campers. It features the Upper Mountain Fork River and Broken Bow Lake. Some of the most common outdoor activities at this park include hiking, trout fishing, canoeing and boating. Campers can choose from tent or cabin campgrounds inside the actual park or camp in the surrounding areas. The town, Broken Bow, offers many high-end luxury cabin rentals.

Talimena National Scenic Byway

The Talimena National Scenic Byway located in southeastern Oklahoma is the highest point in elevation between the Rocky Mountains and Appalachian Mountains. Motorcyclists often frequent this roadway because it has several curves, steep grades, scenic views and state parks. Many people camp at the nearby Queen Wilhelmina State Park and Talihima State Park. Recreational activities in this area include hiking and viewing local nature and wildlife.

Heavener

Situated in the scenic Ouachita Mountains in eastern Oklahoma, the Heavener area features lakes and scenic mountain views. In fact, Tripleblaze ranks two Heavener campgrounds in Top Five Oklahoma Campgrounds list. They both are located near Cedar Lake. Campers can horseback ride, hike and picnic. There are more than 70 miles of equestrian trails and year-round lake activities, such as fishing, canoeing and swimming. Campers may camp in tents or rent cabins.

Route 66

The Route 66 drive is a quintessential American road trip that many motorcyclists enjoy. This famous highway goes through Oklahoma, and there are many campgrounds and activities for motorcyclists to choose from. Some of the most popular public campgrounds on this route include Arcadia Lake in Edmund and the city park in Sayre.
