Tent camping is arguably one of the best and healthiest ways to enjoy the natural beauty of the outdoors. While most facilities cater to recreational vehicle, or RV, camping in Pigeon Forge, a number of campgrounds in the Tennessee tourist city also feature tent sites.

Family-Friendly Site

In addition to RV sites and cabins, Eagle's Nest Campground offers 50 tent sites available for camping. The campground features swimming pools, hot shower facilities, game room, laundry room, ice machine and a playground for small children. The swimming pools are open from Memorial Day to Labor Day each year. Eagle's Nest is located minutes from downtown Pigeon Forge, which features attractions like live music, museums and the Dollywood amusement park. The tent sites at the campground do not include any electric, sewer or water hook-ups. Eagle's Nest asks that those interested in reserving a tent site call for rate information.

National Camp Chain

KOA Kampground features a limited number of tent sites in addition to many RV sites and cabins. The campground is open April 1 through November 30 each year. As of June 2010, tent sites with no electric, water or sewer hook-ups costs $32 for one site or $35 for two sites. On-site amenities at KOA include free wireless internet service, a fitness center, business center, hot shower facilities, laundry room, game room, heated swimming pool and a store and souvenir shop. KOA is minutes away from Dollywood and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Perfect for Socializing

Alpine Hideaway Campground offers cabin rentals, RV spaces and tent camping sites. The tent camping spaces sit on a hill, tucked away in a “cove” and a good distance away from the RV sites. As of June 2010, tent camping sites cost $17.86 per night. Beginning in the springtime, Alpine Hideaway hosts events like cook-outs, potlucks and movie nights each Saturday evening. The main office building features puzzles, games, books, free wireless Internet and surround sound television. A swimming pool, two bath houses and one laundry room are also available at the campground.

Nearby Option

Waldens Creek Campground is located a half-mile away from the main Pigeon Forge parkway and attractions. Like most campgrounds in the area, Waldens Creek offers both tent sites and RV spaces. On-site amenities include free wireless Internet, laundry facilities, paved roads, an open pavilion, convenient creek-side fishing and a recreational hall and game room.

Camping Near the River

Located on the banks of the Little Pigeon River, Twin Mountain RV Park offers both tent and RV camping. The tent camping sites are located directly on the river. Twin Mountain is open year-round and rates vary depending on the time of year. From January 1 through March 17, all RV and tent sites cost $24 per night, as of June 2010. For the rest of the year, tent camping spaces are either $24 or $28 per night, with the more expensive rates charged during holidays and peak summer months. The campground offers free wireless Internet, laundry facilities, bath houses, a swimming pool, basketball and tennis courts and a game room with a pool table.
