Hidden among the fields and forests of Northern Illinois lies a private campground, Outdoor World Pine Country Camping. People in travel trailers and tent campers alike can escape the heat of summer here, with July thermometers climbing only to the mid-70s. Though it's only 75 miles from Chicago, this oasis–complete with pools and ponds–feels like it's a world away.

Facility

The Outdoor World Pine Country Campground has 126 campsites surrounded by grass and trees. The layout of the park allows for travel trailers, tents, and even larger RV’s. Sites are spacious, holding campers up to 40 feet in length, and are wide enough to accommodate slide outs. The majority of the sites offer full hookups with water, sewer, electricity, phone, Internet, and cable TV.

Amenities

Pine Country Campground provides extra services on-site, so campers don’t even need to leave the park. Complete with a laundry facility and grocery store, this campground is well-designed for both brief visits and extended stays. Campers can also rent boats and get fishing supplies.

Campground Activities

Visitors of all ages can find a pleasurable activity, whether it’s the playground, large swimming pool, sports facilities or recreation hall. Hikers can explore the trails throughout the 140-acre campground. There are also a number of private streams and ponds to watch for birds and wildlife.

Nearby Activities

Campers looking to roam beyond the borders of the campground will find a variety of choices. A few miles to the northeast is the small town of Belvidere. The Class A Kishwaukee River bisects Belvidere, with freshwater perfect for boating and fishing. To experience what the Illinois countryside looked like before settlers, take a day trip to the Kinnikinnick Creek Conservation Area. This preserve features pine oak groves and restored prairie lands. The area attracts lots of wildlife to view, including barred owls, raccoons and deer.

Outdoor World Campground Memberships

Outdoor World operates the Pine Country Campground as one of its 16 private campgrounds. Besides Illinois, campgrounds can also be found in Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. As private campgrounds, Outdoor World works differently from a standard pay per night location. Similar to a time-share, members can either buy space at one specific park or stay at several parks. Only members can stay at the campground.
