Dry hair and scalp is usually the result of washing the hair too often, overexposure to the sun or excessive use of heat-based styling tools such as curling irons and blow dryers. Sometimes the weather, especially during the winter, can cause hair and scalp to feel drier. There are products designed to relieve dryness of the hair and scalp, but before purchasing any product you should check with your doctor to determine if the product is right for you.

Korres Hair and Scalp Scrub

This is part of a line of natural products that come from Greece. The scrub contains green silt which is supposed to remove dead cells from the scalp and help it produce healthier hair. The product works to balance oily, dry and dandruff-prone scalp. This exfoliating cream retails for about $30 as of June 2010, and should be followed by Kiehl's Lecithin and Coconut Enriched Hair Masque with Panthenol, a conditioning treatment applied to the scalp after shampooing and left on for at least an hour. This product is supposed to relieve dryness and get rid of the frizz. It retails for $37.

Emu Oil Shampoo and Conditioner

This product, made from wheat germ oil, jojoba oil and emu oil, is designed to remove dirt from your hair without stripping it of its natural moisture and not leaving it oily. It is made especially for dry hair and scalp, damaged, brittle hair and split ends. The main ingredient, emu oil, is said to be anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-microbial. The shampoo supplies essential Omega 3s to restore the moisture content of your hair to 9 percent. The shampoo and conditioner combination retails for around $35.

Bb. Treatment

This treatment, formulated by Bumble and Bumble of New York, is a four-step daily hair care regimen which consists of shampoo, conditioner, mask and a hair-nourishing complex. In addition, the company also manufactures individual shampoos, conditioners and treatments to repair and give shine to dry, damaged hair. A leave-in treatment called the “quenching complex” replenishes moisture, strengthens, softens, shines and provides resilience. A 4-oz. bottle sells for about $33.
