You may want to ask your dental health professional if removable braces are a suitable option for your condition due to their comfort and favorable appearance compared to traditional metal braces. Removable braces are suitable for mild cases, whereas metal braces are necessary for more severe dental adjustments. (Reference 1) Simpli 5, The Red White and Blue orthodontic system and Invisalign are three types of removable brace available in the United States.
Simpli 5
Simpli 5 entered the marketplace as an orthodontic system in late 2006. These removable braces use five aligners per dental arch and are available to treat a patient's upper arch, lower arch or both. In the case that a patient seeks an adjustment of both his upper and lower arch, the patient will wear a total of 10 aligners. The Simpli 5 is an invisible brace system that is an upgraded version of another AOA product, the Red White & Blue orthodontic system. (Reference 2)
Red White & Blue
The Red White & Blue orthodontic system uses three aligners and is able to treat only one arch at a time, either the upper or lower. Consequently, this system is capable of treating less advanced alignment cases than the Simpli 5 system. AOA, the manufacturer of Red White & Blue, created this line of braces to provide a less costly system to patients who have lesser orthodontic needs. The name of these braces comes from the red, white and blue indicators on the braces that indicate the sequence in which the patient should wear them. (Reference 2)
Invisalign
Invisalign is another clear, removable brace alternative that is customized to snap on and off of your teeth at your discretion. Invisalign uses a mold of your teeth and a gradual shifting process that allows you to align your teeth with as little pain as possible. These braces are available for both arches and come in a series of 14 sets that the patient progresses along, switching about every two weeks. Invisalign recommends that you remove the braces to eat, drink, floss and brush. (Reference 3) You should also clean the braces with your toothbrush before you go to bed and in the morning before you start your day.
