Side Effects of Super Colon Cleanse

Some believe that toxins and other pollutants can gradually build up within your colon and that this can lead to digestive disorders, allergies, arthritis and even cancer. One product used to cleanse the colon is Super Colon Cleanse. However, this particular product contains senna powder, which is a stimulant laxative. Stimulant laxatives have the potential to trigger undesirable side effects.

Gas and Bloating

Based on customer reviews, one of the most common side effects of Super Colon Cleanse is gas and bloating. The senna and psyllium husk in the product increases the production of gas within the lower intestines. This not only causes an increase in flatulence, but it can also lead to bloating as well as abdominal pain and cramping.

Diarrhea

PubMed Health cautions that senna powder could cause diarrhea. Since the senna found in Super Colon Cleanse is a stimulant laxative, it increases the muscle contractions within the colon. This passes waste through the large intestines at a much faster rate than normal, affecting the absorption of liquid. With more water in the stool, bowel movements become loose.

Dehydration

Since less water is being absorbed within the intestinal tract, you may experience dehydration, according to the Mayo Clinic. What's happening is you're now losing more water through your stool than what you're actually taking in. This can lead to headaches, dizziness, lightheadedness, muscle weakness and fatigue. If it becomes severe, you can experience a decrease in blood pressure, rapid heartbeat or unconsciousness.

Bleeding

The increase in muscle contractions within the colon can begin to irritate the intestinal walls, leading to not only loose, but also bloody stools, warns PubMed Health. Bloody stools may look black and tarry stools or show traces of blood.

Nausea

Users of Super Colon Cleanse have also claimed that the product causes nausea. This nausea may be accompanied by a loss of appetite or vomiting. Vomiting also increases the loss of fluid, especially when persistent. Much like diarrhea, this could lead to dehydration.

Constipation

Surprisingly, some users of Super Colon Cleanser complain that it causes constipation. Though the product contains a stimulant laxative, your colon may become so accustomed to the stimulation that the current dosage no longer encourages a bowel movement, and the muscle contractions slow. This causes waste to pass at a more gradual rate, leading to more liquid being absorbed by the intestinal walls. Stools become harder than normal and difficult to pass.
