Stretch marks are breaks in the fibrous tissue of skin caused by stressing. As skin pushes outward due to pregnancy or weight gain, the pigment discolors in the area of the breakage. At times, this discoloration can be light, other times if may appear reddish. Hydroquinone is a cream-based product used to bleach skin. The common use of hydroquinone cream is for freckles or age spots, but those with stretch marks may benefit from it too.

Step 1

Run a patch test on a small area of skin on your inner forearm. Dab a tiny dot of the cream on the test spot and rub it in. Watch the test region for the next 24 hours. Report any blistering, redness or irritation to your doctor, as this would indicate an allergic reaction.

Step 2

Cleanse the area using warm water and a gentle soap. Pat it dry with a clean towel.

Step 3

Squirt a line of the cream across your fingertips and massage it into the stretch marks. Spread the cream evenly over the affected area.

Step 4

Wash your hands to remove any trace of the hydroquinone cream.

Step 5

Repeat as often as recommended by your doctor.
