A double chin is the result of fat deposits that appear due to genetics, age, lack of exercise, excess body fat, or poor diet. While there are many expensive operations and surgeries to get rid of a double chin, there are also home remedies available to help resolve this problem.
Diet and Exercise
Eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly can help you lose a double chin. A double chin is more pronounced on overweight people, due to excess fat and water stored in the fat cells. By limiting the calories you take in, reducing the amount of fat stored in your body, and exercising regularly, you will burn some of your body’s fat stores, including in your neck.
Platysma Muscle Exercises
The platysma muscle extends from your neck to your chest; exercising it helps you lose your double chin by strengthening and toning the muscle. Tilt your head back so you are looking at the ceiling, then open and shut your mouth so you feel the platysma muscle tense and relax. Alternately, use a tennis ball as resistance, placing it under your chin while you keep your head straight, and open and close your mouth.
Chin Exercises
Several exercises that can help tighten the muscles around your chin to get rid of a double chin. Stick your tongue out, and try to reach the tip of your nose. If you can’t quite get there, keep practicing until you do.
Next, lie on your back, with your shoulders raised slightly off the floor. Rotate your head to the left, then right, then tilt your head up, then down to your chest. Repeat 10 times.
Contouring Chin Wrap
The contouring chin wrap is a fairly new solution, and is available from most online beauty shops. It involves applying a gel solution to the chin and neck area, and wrapping the area tightly in an ACE bandage-like wrap. The gel and wrap work together to give the chin area a mini-massage, helping reduce fatty cells and tighten loose skin. Apply the wrap for 10 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes at night; you should see results in about one week to one month.
Hide It
If you can’t seem to get rid of your double chin, there are some tricks for hiding it. Keep your hair cut right at the jaw line — short hair gives the illusion of a longer neck. Wear dresses with low necklines to help lengthen you neck. Apply foundation one shade darker to the area below your chin, and blend it well with the rest of your foundation. This will draw attention away from your chin and neck area. Walking tall with your head held high will help your neck skin sag less, and will make your neck look more graceful.
