Teens often try to emulate celebrities' toned bodies. While it's tempting to focus your efforts on sit-ups or crunches, you need to do more if you want to lose weight in your midsection. You can't spot reduce the fat on a specific part of your body. However, there are ways for teens to get flat abs. Make easy lifestyle changes if you want a slimmer waistline.

Healthy Diet

Your mother was right when she told you easy-to-prepare, processed foods weren’t good for you. Take a quick glance at the nutritional content in many foods eaten by teens. You'll see they contain little more than empty calories and processed sugars. Replace processed foods with fresh fruits and vegetables, lean protein and whole grains. Reduce or eliminate your soda intake. Drink plenty of water instead.

Get Moving

If you enjoy spending time at the mall, make the trip an opportunity for exercise. A few trips around the mall can help burn calories, reducing the amount of fat stored on your body. Buy a pedometer to keep track of how far you’ve walked. Start out with a 1-mile walk around the mall. Increase your distance as you build up your stamina. You also can go jogging, hiking, skating or biking to burn calories and flatten your stomach. Join a team if you have a favorite sport. You need to burn more calories than you consume if you want to lose weight.

Eat Breakfast

Breakfast really is the most important part of the day. Eating breakfast can help you lose weight. While teens--and adults--often sleep as long as possible, it's worth losing a little bit of sleep so you have time for this meal. Eating a nutritious breakfast can help boost your body's metabolism so it'll burn more fat throughout the day. If you don’t have time to sit down and eat, grab a piece of fruit and take it with you.
