According to the Mayo Clinic, the best medical treatments for acne scars include laser treatments, dermabrasion, surgical procedures and the use of tissue fillers like collagen to fill scarred areas. These medical treatments are commonly effective; however, they are often expensive and invasive. However, there are some natural home remedies that can help you get rid of pock marks. While proponents of these natural remedies claim they work, these claims have not been evaluated by the FDA, so consult your doctor before starting any new skin care treatments.
Whole Milk and Lemon Juice
According to Jethro Kloss, author of "Back to Eden: The Classic Guide to Herbal Medicine, Natural Foods, and Home Remedies Since 1939,” a mixture of whole milk and lemon juice can be applied to the skin to help get rid of deep acne scars and pock marks. To make and use this mixture, combine two tbsp. whole milk with one and a half tbsp. lemon juice in a small container or jar with a tight fitting lid. Shake the container to combine the liquid, and dab a small amount onto a cotton ball or pad and then onto the skin. Leave the mixture on the skin for 10 to 12 minutes or until completely dry. Rinse the skin with cool water and apply your regular moisturizer if you use one. This treatment can be repeated three times every day unless it irritates your skin, and unused portions can be kept in the refrigerator for 24 hours.
Lanolin Cream and Lavender Essential Oil
According to Ann Worwood, author of "The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy,” a mixture of lanolin cream and lavender essential oils can reduce the appearance of pock marks while helping to permanently remove them over time. To make this mixture, combine 10 parts lanolin cream with one part essential oil and whisk together to thoroughly combine. Apply a thin layer of the mixture to the affected area and leave it on overnight or for six to eight hours before rinsing with cool water and applying your regular moisturizer. This treatment can be used once per day unless irritation or extreme redness occur. Unused portions of the mixture can be kept in a cool, dark place for up to one month. Make sure you stir the mixture before each use, as the cream and lavender essential oil tend to separate.
Vitamin E Oil and Baking Soda Scrub
According to Kloss, a mixture of vitamin E oil and baking soda can be applied to pock marks and acne scars as a topical treatment to reduce their appearance over time. To make and use this mixture, combine one and a half tbsp. vitamin E oil with ½ tbsp. baking soda in a small jar or container and stir to combine. Gently scrub the mixture onto wet skin over the skin or in the shower and leave what remains on the skin for five to seven minutes before rinsing with cool water. You do not have to wash with soap after using this treatment unless the scrub irritates your skin. This remedy can be used twice per day as long as it does not bother your skin or cause excessive redness. Unused portions should be discarded, so make only what you need for each treatment.
