Orange Beach is situated along the Alabama Gulf Coast. Locals and visitors enjoy the pristine white beaches, emerald waters and plenty of activities. A popular destination is the Wharf, with shopping, dining and restaurants, Adventure Island, with mini-golf and paddleboats, and Adventures Unlimited Outdoor Center with kayaking, tubing and canoeing. Orange Beach affords the health-conscious the opportunity to maintain an exercise regimen by hiking, golfing or walking.
Golf
Arrange for a tee time at Orange Beach Golf Center, located off Highway 180. You can play among the wooded bridges, an abundance of foliage, fountains and azaleas. The numerous ponds increase the challenge for the novice to the advanced player. This golf center offers a driving range, pro shop, clubhouse and concession area. The fee to play the nine-hole course with a cart is $20, and without a cart is $15 as of 2010.
Snorkel
Hundreds of people snorkel along the shores of Orange Beach. You can tour the water with Glass Bottom Dolphin Tours. A guide takes you to where sea turtles, octopi, spade fish and other sea creatures dwell. The two-hour tour includes instruction and snorkel vest. Snorkelers pay $35 for the tour and rent snorkel equipment for $10 as of 2010. Snorkeling tours take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Eco-Tour
Take a walk through the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail. The trails span miles from Orange Beach to Gulf State Park Beach, consisting of four diverse ecosystems. While you walk, notice the wildflowers and wildlife among the woodlands and swamps. According to folklore, a creature consisting of part man and cat, known as the "Catman," lurks the backcountry trails.
Water Aerobics
Enroll in a water aerobics class at the Orange Beach Aquatics Center. You will strengthen your muscles with the swim fins, dumbbells and flotation belts during the water aerobics course. The aquatic center offers water aerobics classes from April to October on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The fee is $3 per course as of 2010.
Tennis
Start your day with a game of tennis at the Orange Beach Tennis Center. The courts are open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The tennis center consists of eight lighted hard courts. You can pick up tennis shoes, Wilson rackets and Nike apparel at the pro shop. You can register for an adult, youth or senior adult class. Tennis programs range from $25 to $70 per person as of 2010.
