How Does the Weight Watchers Diet Work?

A Lifestyle, Not a Diet

Everywhere you look, you'll find a new fad diet. Ads on television, on the radio and in magazines all promise to help you take off those unwanted pounds. Even though some of these diets may work, the weight usually comes back after the diet ends. Weight Watchers is a lifestyle change, in which old eating habits are slowly replaced by new healthy ones that you can keep for a lifetime.

Point System

With Weight Watchers, you can eat whatever you have around the house, as long as you stay within your allowed points. Members have a pre-established point total, which they try to adhere to every day. Points are calculated through a Weight Watcher-provided calorie converter that allows the member to determine the points of any given food item, based on the food's portion size, calories and carbohydrate content. Staying close to your daily point total is key to reaching your goal weight.

Support for Life

Weight Watchers provides weekly meetings, where members can get the support they need to stay on their plan, and can also see the success of other members. One prominent example of these success stories are the leaders. They are all Weight Watcher members, so chances are they're going through the same things you are.
A big part of the weekly meeting is the weigh-in. It happens at the start of the meeting. The weigh-in keeps members motivated and accountable throughout the week, knowing they are going to have to weigh in on their meeting day.
