According to Joyce J. Morris, Reiki therapist and author of “Reiki: Hands that Heal,” Reiki is a ubiquitous energy that flows through the therapist and brings about healing. Although the standard reiki healing technique is powerful when used in a traditional in-person healing session, practitioners believe they can use reiki energy in a number of different ways to effect healing of people, animals, and even situations that require it.
Standard
In order to become a practitioner of Reiki, you must receive an energetic attunement to the Reiki energy ray. An attunement is usually offered alongside a class that shows you how to place your hands for maximum benefit to the client. Practitioners of Reiki healing methods claim that when they engage with this energy, it flows down through the crown chakra at the top of the head and out through the hands, where it can be directed wherever the practitioner decides.
A standard Reiki session consists of the practitioner placing her hands on or above each of the client’s chakras. According to Chakra.com, chakras are the major energy systems of the body, located at seven different areas, from the crown at the top of the head, to the root, located at the tailbone. The Reiki energy works to clear away any blocks on the chakras so that the body draws energy more abundantly and healing may take place.
Distance
In addition to performing a healing session in person, practitioners at more advanced levels can send the healing energy of Reiki from a distance, according to the website Reiki.nu. The practitioner uses a distance healing symbol, a Japanese character that represents the connection between practitioner and recipient and the illusory nature of separation, to make a connection. Once the symbol is engaged, the Reiki energy flows in the usual manner to heal the recipient.
Situational
Because the distance healing symbol closes any gap between practitioner and recipient, practitioners claim that it operates regardless of any difference in time, in addition to physical distance in space. According to Reiki.nu, Reiki distance healing can therefore work to heal past and future situations. The practitioner can send Reiki to another or to himself in the past, to help to heal a traumatic event. Likewise, if you are anticipating a difficult situation, such as a confrontation or job interview, you can send Reiki energy to yourself or to others to help ensure a positive outcome.
Beaming
The International Center for Reiki Training website notes that its practitioners have experienced positive results from using the distance healing symbol to beam energy across the room at a client. The website suggests that in order to beam, the practitioner should imagine her hands to be like radar dishes that focus the energy in the desired direction. Powerful healing can occur with beaming because it is possible for the practitioner to relax more completely, merging more efficiently with the higher consciousness of the Reiki energy. Beaming also makes it possible for you to offer Reiki to wild animals that are otherwise unsafe or too shy to approach.
