Wrinkles that appear at the corners of the mouth and lips, as well as between your eyebrows, are referred to as frown lines. These lines are caused by heredity and facial expressions through the years. As you age, your skin loses its elasticity through the breakdown of supporting fibers known as collagen. This prevents your skin from returning to its normal state after stretching. Smoking may also cause frown lines to appear, due to the constant movements of the mouth and squinting of the eyes while inhaling smoke, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Step 1

Apply an over-the-counter wrinkle cream containing retinol, alpha hydroxy acids, kinetin, coenzyme Q10, copper peptides and antioxidants, one to two times a day. According to the Mayo Clinic, non prescription wrinkle creams may help mild to moderate wrinkles such as frown lines; however, their ingredients are such low potency that deeper lines may not be affected.

Step 2

Apply a prescription retinoid cream or gel to your frown lines, as directed by your dermatologist. Retinoids are derived from vitamin A, touted for helping reverse aging skin, according to the Mayo Clinic. Some side effects of retinoid use include redness, irritation, dryness and itching of the treatment site.

Step 3

Apply a moisturizer to your skin after cleaning with a gentle facial cleanser and warm water. According to the Doctors Book of Home Remedies, keeping the skin moist can help hide and plump smaller frown lines as well as other fine lines that appear on your skin.

Step 4

Apply sunscreen to your face when partaking in any outdoor activity. Sun damage can worsen wrinkles and prevent them from healing as you undergo treatment. According to the Doctors Book of Home Remedies, you should avoid the sun’s peak hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. by staying indoors or wearing protective clothing if you must venture outside.

Step 5

Eat foods rich in vitamin B complex, vitamin A, C, and E. These vitamins provide antioxidants and proteins required to heal skin and build collagen fibers. Foods such as fish, poultry, green leafy vegetables and citrus fruits are ideal for keeping skin healthy and combating wrinkles according to the Doctors Book of Home Remedies.
