Jumping rope is an effective calorie-burning exercise, but it can become monotonous. Teaching yourself cool jump rope tricks helps make your workouts more interesting and makes your exercise time fly by. Consider practicing these moves without a rope at first to master the footwork.

Twister

The twister is much like a classic jump rope technique of bouncing up and over the rope, but it adds a rotation of the body to work the core. Keep the upper body facing forward as you swing the rope but shift your hips to turn your lower body to the right as you pass over the rope. Center your body for one turn of the rope and then twist to the left. As you become more adept, increase your speed for an impressive session.

Double Under

The goal of the double under is to turn the rope fast enough so that it passes under your feet twice before you hit the ground. As soon as you jump, aggressively snap your wrists downward to spin the rope quickly. Jumping higher won't help you succeed at this move; focus on your wrists’ control of the rope. Make sure you land softly to protect the knees.

Two in One Jumping

Grab a friend for this fun jump rope trick that uses just one rope. Each person holds one handle of the same rope and stands side-by-side. Count down from three and jump simultaneously, turning the rope handle at the same speed. Work your way up to five or 10 consistent minutes. Another way to double jump is to stand behind your partner. The person in back holds the rope and twirls it while both of you jump in unison. Vary this move by facing your partner or by adding a third person.
