A belly pooch is an ugly, embarrassing part of your body that many people struggle to lose. Not only is a belly pooch unsightly, it's also unhealthy and dangerous. Belly fat has been linked to health problems like cancer, diabetes, heart disease and dementia. The key to getting rid of a belly pooch quickly is the right combination of diet, sleep and exercise.

Step 1

Get enough rest. The National Sleep Foundation says adults should get at least seven to eight hours of sleep every night. If you are sleep deprived, your metabolism works at a slower rate, making it more difficult to lose weight. Sleep deprivation also weakens your body, making it harder for you to muster the energy to exercise.

Step 2

Get enough exercise. Walk during your lunch hour, park your car farther away from your destination or take the stairs. There are simple ways you can add exercise to your daily routine to get rid of your belly pooch quickly. The Mayo Clinic recommends at least two and one half hours of moderate exercise such as walking every week, or an hour and 15 minutes of vigorous exercise like running or biking every week.

Step 3

Hydrate. If your body is dehydrated, you cannot burn fat as efficiently. Your metabolism slows down and you will not get rid of your belly pooch. The Mayo Clinic says you should drink at least eight eight-ounce glasses of water every day.

Step 4

Avoid alcohol. Alcohol is full of empty calories that have no nutritional value. You gain nothing except a beer belly. Alcohol damages your liver and slows down the rate at which you burn fat.

Step 5

Reduce salt. Too much salt in your system causes you to retain water, which makes your belly pooch even bigger. If you want to lose your belly pooch, cut out salt. Next time you are at a restaurant, push away the salt shaker and reach for the pepper. You can also season your food with spices like dill, oregano and basil. The Mayo Clinic says you should not consume more than 2,300 milligrams of salt per day.

Step 6

Eat breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it kick starts your metabolism and gets your body burning calories right away in the morning. If you don't eat for hours, your body goes into starvation mode, which makes it to much harder to loose your belly pooch. Mealsmatter says people who eat breakfast are more likely to stick with their diet program than those who do not eat breakfast.
