Elliptical machines are designed to help the user simulate the movements involved in running or walking to improve cardiovascular health and assist in weight loss. These machines consist of foot pedals and handlebars attached to a base unit; a console unit controls settings such as resistance level and workout programs. Some of the components can be large; you may find it helpful to recruit the assistance of a second person to help assemble the unit.

Step 1

Fit the front and rear stabilizers onto the base of the elliptical's frame. Align the holes on the stabilizers with those on the frame; screw the stabilizers into place.

Step 2

Grip the wire harness, located on the base of the elliptical, inside the upright connector. Attach one end of the upright's wire tie to the harness. Pull the wire tie up through the top of the upright until the harness appears. Tape the harness to the top of the upright to prevent it from sliding back down. Insert the bottom end of the upright into the upright connector; screw the upright into place.

Step 3

Grease the upright axle, then slide the axle through the opening in the center of the upright. Fit the left and right body legs onto the ends of the axle and screw them into place; some models may also feature a cosmetic cover that fits between the legs and the upright.

Step 4

Align the foot pedals over the holes on the pedal bars and screw them securely into place; some models may also require you to screw one end of the pedal bars onto a crank arm on the elliptical's rear wheel.

Step 5

Fit one end of the right link arm over the axle in the right pedal bar, then fit the remaining end over the axle in the right body leg. Screw the right link arm securely into place, then repeat the installation process with the left link arm.

Step 6

Inspect the inside of the right upper arm for any internal wiring; if found, tie one of the console's wire ties to the wire harness, then pull on the tie to feed the wiring up into the console. Fit one end of the right upper arm onto the corresponding connection point on the right body leg. Screw the upper arm securely into place. Repeat the installation process with the left upper arm.

Step 7

Connect the various wires leading through the elliptical's upright to their matching connectors on the underside of the console unit. Place the console onto the top of the upright, then screw the console into place. Attach any remaining cosmetic coverings that may have come with your elliptical device.
