Tag is a classic childhood game that can be played in a seemingly endless number of forms. The basics of all Tag games include someone who is the tagger, or "It," whose job is to tag other players. In classic Tag and in many variations, a player who is tagged becomes the tagger. In other versions, however, the tagged player may be required to do any of a number of other things. By changing the rules of Tag, the game can stay fresh and exciting.
TV Tag
This childhood favorite requires a knowledge of favorite children's television shows. One person is designated the as tagger and attempts to tag another player. Players may save themselves from being tagged by sitting down quickly and shouting the name of a television show before the tagger can tag them. When the tagger tags someone successfully, that person takes over as the tagger.
Amoeba Tag
Two players are taggers and must hold hands throughout the game. Each player they tag joins hands with them, forming a chain. When four or more of an even-number of players are part of the chain, the chain may split as long as each split contains an even number of players. The game continues until everyone is part of an "amoeba."
Jack Frost and Jane Thaw
This variation of Freeze Tag is faster-paced and keeps more players in the game. Designate one child to be "Jack Frost" and a second child to be "Jane Thaw." The child who is Jack Frost is the tagger. When Jack Frost tags a player, he or she is frozen and cannot move until tagged by Jane Thaw. Jack Frost and Jane Thaw cannot tag one another.
