Supporting your child's education is a full-time task. In addition to receiving instruction at school, you child will learn largely from whatever dynamic you create within the home. Fostering a positive learning environment demonstrates the importance of knowledge in a way that creates the groundwork for future success.

Create

Step 1

Clean and unclutter your child's potential workspace. Children can easily become distracted by objects that grab their attention in the immediate area. Organizing the work place will also enable you to find appropriate materials and supplies more easily when needed.

Step 2

Decorate the room with educational posters, ideally those that expound upon whatever subjects your child is currently learning. Among these place previously graded assignments to exist as both a demonstration of your pride in her work and learning aids to be reviewed when necessary.

Step 3

Obtain a small filing cabinet. In it, place all assignments and classify each one as either a work to be done or one which has already been completed. The filing cabinet enables you to procure needed items quickly, saving both time and energy.

Step 4

Give out stickers and small prizes as rewards for achievement. Be generous with praise. Use positive statements to reinforce positive performance and to let your child reap the benefits of a job well done.

Tips and Warnings

  • Kids enjoy participating in hands-on projects. Facilitate learning through the use of interactive puzzles and games that allow your child to learn through several senses. Crafts are excellent for encouraging free expression and creativity.
  • While making sure that the designated learning area is decorated and illustrated with items that help your child feel comfortable, it should be far enough removed from those that cause distraction. Cartoons, television or toys may create an atmosphere that too closely resembles a playroom, making it difficult for your child to focus.
