Brown County, Indiana, has no manufacturing or mining operations that may pollute the air. This area is also located some distance from other major cities. This means visitors to this area can breath clean air and enjoy the sounds of nature without suffering from noise pollution. Staying at a Brown County campground will allow travelers to make the most of the clean air and starry night skies here.

Private Campgrounds

There are five private campgrounds in Brown County. These are Last Resort RV Park, Red Barn Jamboree, Valley Branch Retreat and Westward Ho Campgrounds, which are in Nashville. These campgrounds offer tent or RV sites with water and electric hookups. Bill Monroe's Music Park and Campground is located in Bean Blossom and offers bluegrass music festivals. Camping here can be done in an RV or cabin.

State Campgrounds

There are two state campgrounds in Brown County. These are Brown County State Park and Yellowwood State Forest. Brown County State Park is located near Nashville and offers primitive tent sites as well as RV sites with water and electric hookups. Horse camping is also available here. Yellowwood State Forest is located near Bloomington and offers primitive tent camping only. Reservations are not required.

Road Conditions

Most campgrounds in Brown County are accessible by highway. Roads are mostly paved and well maintained. There may be some hills to navigate along with narrow turns on some roads. There are few stoplights and little traffic in the county. Travelers who bring RV campers should have little difficulty navigating or parking their equipment.

Wildlife

Wildlife can be a nuisance for campers in Brown County, Indiana. Guests are advised to place their food items in a locking plastic container to repel skunks and raccoons. They should also refrain from feeding squirrels, rabbits or deer. During the spring and summer, travelers should be aware of the presence of snakes. Campers are advised to wear thick boots and long pants to avoid being bitten.

Recreation

There are a number of recreational activities that may be enjoyed by campers here. Fishing and boating can be enjoyed on any of a number of lakes in the area. Anglers should have a valid Indiana fishing license when fishing. Hiking, bicycling, picnicking and bird watching are other popular activities. Brown County is also an ideal location for hunting in season.

Attractions

Brown County campers will have access to many local attractions. There are flea markets, antique shops and gift shops within a short drive of most campgrounds. There are also restaurants and art galleries located in downtown Nashville, which is a short drive from all Brown County campgrounds. Nashville also has a playhouse and historical pioneer village.

Precautions

Campers should bring insect repellent with them to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes. Sunscreen will be needed as well as a visor or hat and sunglasses. Campers should carry a compass or global positioning system with them when walking in the woods to avoid being lost. A whistle will help travelers be located as cell phone coverage is usually weak.
