Yoga Journal’s "Complete Beginner's Guide", featuring yoga teacher Jason Crandell, is a two-disc set that uses a 360- degree video camera to demonstrate the yoga poses–providing a perspective original to exercise DVDs. Those new to yoga will be able to see the 35 most essential poses from every angle on Disc One–including backbends, standing poses and sun salutations.

Once you're familiar with the poses and their proper alignment you can move on to Disc Two, which is a 60-minute essential practice, a 15-minute awakening practice and a 15-minute calming practice. The total running time is approximately 90 minutes.

The beginner-friendly DVD allows you to choose your intensity at either level 1 or level 2, determine target area, workout length and it even includes customized workout options. CBSnews.com says the DVD is, “...not highly energetic and in your face, very clear and to the point. It is really valuable to have somebody teaching you.” A total of 115 moves allow you to target your upper body, lower body and abs, for a total body workout. And you can set the workouts from four to 24 minutes–a seven minute stretching bonus section is included.

Jillian Michaels: The Complete Workout for Beginners

Fitnessmagazine.com recommends fitness expert Jillian Michaels' “Complete Workout for Beginners” for the novice exerciser. The magazine says, “Michaels makes circuit training effective and easy to follow.” Michaels explains each movement throughout the DVD, so that you fully understand the movements. Fitnessmagazine.com also reports you can burn 370 to 460 calories during the 97 minute DVD. Having 3 to 5 pound dumbbells and a resistance band is recommended, but not mandatory.
