Picnics represent summer entertainment for many families. Adding in picnic games makes the event more entertaining for all of the guests. Many picnic games work well at any venue, whether you're at a park, in your backyard or another outdoor location. The games adapt easily to include picnic guests of all ages.
Taste Tests
Keep in the picnic spirit with a taste test game. Bring along a blindfold and food specifically for the taste test. Blindfold the participants, and have them take a bite out of several foods; they must guess what they're eating based on taste alone. Avoid foods that are common allergens, such as nut-based products, dairy and eggs.
Eating Contests
Another food-based game that provides entertainment for a picnic is an eating contest. Pies are a classic option for eating contests; make it more interesting by not letting participants use their hands. The winner is the person who finishes his pie first, or who eats the most in a specific amount of time. You also can have participants eat other items, such as cupcakes or cookies.
Scavenger Hunt
You can have a scavenger hunt anywhere. Either choose generic items--such as leaves, rocks and flowers--or do some research and create a customized list for your location. Make several copies of the scavenger hunt list so each team has its own copy. The first team to find all items on the list wins the scavenger hunt. Or, you can set a time limit on the scavenger hunt; the winner is the team that collectsthe most items.
Inventing Games
Frisbees, footballs, beach balls, volleyballs and kites are just a few of the classic picnic toys, according to Divine Dinner Parties. Instead of using them in the traditional manner, let guests invent new games with the items. Place all the game gear on a blanket or picnic table. Let the picnic guests work in small groups to invent a new game. The groups then take turns teaching the games to one another. You might find a new favorite picnic game.
