Acne is a common skin condition that affects men and women of varying ages. It occurs when sebum, or the body's natural oil, combines with bacteria within a clogged pore. Pimples erupt in response to white blood cells attacking the site of infection, creating pus that's indicative of whiteheads. Many commercial products contain harsh ingredients that deteriorate skin cells, leaving the skin raw, and contributing to scarring and persistent flare-ups. Natural spot treatments may help to reduce inflammation associated with acne and eliminate unsightly blemishes without chemicals. However, homemade treatments are not a substitute for professional medical care.

Nutmeg and Milk for Acne-prone Combination Skin

Step 1

Mix 1 tbsp. of ground organic nutmeg with 1 tbsp. of milk in a small dish. The Organic Facts website states that nutmeg has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and bactericide medicinal properties that help heal the skin and reduce the appearance of pimples. Milk aids in soothing redness, supplies moisture to dry areas around the face and regulates oil production.

Turmeric and Coconut Oil for Acne-prone Dry Skin

Step 1

Mix 1/2 tsp. of turmeric and 1/2 tsp. of coconut oil in a small dish. The Acne Resource Center notes that turmeric is useful in drying out acne while preventing its development and associated flaking or dryness. Coconut oil is full of vitamin E which helps diminish scars and replenish lost moisture in acne-prone dry skin, states the Organic Facts website.

Step 2

Apply the treatment directly to the pimple at least 20 minutes before going to sleep.

Step 3

Leave it on overnight and rinse with warm water in the morning. It usually takes two or three days for acne to vanish using this treatment, says the Acne Resource Organization.

Honey and Cinnamon for Acne-prone Dry Skin

Step 1

Combine 3 tbsp. of honey and 1 tsp. of cinnamon in a small saucer. Honey is a natural humectant, which means it has the ability to attract and capture moisture. It is useful for those who have oily skin as it keeps skin moisturized without added oil, states the Skin Care Resource Center. It also contains high levels of antioxidants, which prevents skin damage and aging. Cinnamon, similar to nutmeg, has antiseptic and antimicrobial properties that are beneficial in eliminating impurities that cause acne, according to the Organic Facts website.

Step 2

Apply the paste on to the blemish for at least 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 3

Rinse off or leave it on overnight. Pimples should gradually disappear over a week’s time.
