Nutrisystem is a weight loss program that features meal delivery services. In addition to the normal weight loss programs, there are options for men and women with type 2 diabetes as well as for vegetarians. If you sign up for their plans, Nutrisystem delivers food to your home and also recommends that you supplement your Nutrisystem food with additional fresh produce, dairy and protein

Milk

Calcium is an essential mineral that promotes strong bones. The nationally recommended adequate intake, or AI, for calcium is 1,000 milligrams per day for healthy adults age 19-50. Many dairy products are good food sources of calcium. Milk provides about 30 percent of the AI for calcium per cup. On its website, Nutrisystem lists fat free (skim) milk as one of the “fresh groceries for every day” recommendations for getting enough calcium.

Yogurt and Cheese

Other dairy products besides milk provide calcium. These products can also supplement the amount of calcium that you already receive in the meals that Nutrisystem delivers to you. Additional dairy products add variety in your diet compared to solely using milk as a calcium source. Nutrisystem lists light yogurt, low-fat cheese, and nonfat cottage cheese as alternatives to milk servings. Per cup, yogurt provides about 25 to 35 percent of the AI for calcium. The amount can vary along with the brand and specific type of yogurt. A cup of cottage cheese has about 15 percent of the AI for calcium, and an ounce of low-fat cheese has about 15 to 20 percent of the AI for calcium.

Soy

Nutrisystem also lists soy foods as alternatives for milk servings. Fortified soy products are good food sources of calcium that do not have milk in them. These options might be good for you if you are lactose intolerant or do not like the taste of dairy products. Nutrisystem lists soy milk and soy cheese as its dairy alternatives. The amount of calcium in soy milk and cheese varies depending on the amount of fortification. Soy milk can contain up to 50 percent of the AI for calcium per cup.
