Kids' soccer games are used to teach fundamental skills to young soccer players. They should always retain an emphasis on fun and enjoyment. The key with young soccer players is to create an experience that makes them want to return to soccer practice. Young players respond to upbeat, positive coaching and competition during practice.

Types

Kids' soccer games should develop fundamental skills and focus on fun and competition. For example, name a dribbling game Spider Man. In a 20-yard-box, the dribbling players would play the role of Spider Man, and have to dribble from one end of the box to the other. The defending soccer player would be a villain such as the Green Goblin, attempting to steal the balls. When the ball is lost, dribbling players become a defender, with the winner being the last dribbling player to not lose the ball.

Benefits

Kids' soccer game will improve a young soccer player’s ability to perform fundamental skills during a soccer game. They should produce positive experiences for young players and develop confidence within a peer group.

Significance

Kids' soccer games require a high level of physical activity. Young soccer players are required to run and sprint on a regular basis, which raises the heart rate and will increase physical fitness. Muscle development, healthy bone density and weight management are all promoted by regular soccer practice for young players.

Considerations

A soccer coach should not focus on performance or results during kids' soccer games. It is more important that young soccer players to have fun memories and be excited to play soccer again. A coach should focus on only one or two fundamental skill coaching points in each session. End a session by asking players what the coaching points of the session were.

The Coaches Manual website states that in kid’s soccer, it is a good idea to change the game or alter rules every 10 minutes. This holds the young soccer players' interest and keeps the enjoyment level high. The key to little kids' soccer drill is for every player to have ball and be directly involved. A soccer coach should pick one aspect of the game to focus drills and games on during a kids' soccer training session.
