Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and is effective at relieving pain and reducing inflammation. Ibuprofen is taken to relieve headache discomfort accompanied by pain and to reduce fevers. Ibuprofen is available over-the-counter in 200 or 400 or 600 mg. Ibuprofen 800 mg is by prescription only. Ibuprofen is safe for many people; if you are allergic to NSAIDs, however, consult with a physician to determine if there will be an allergic reaction to ibuprofen. Ibuprofen contains only one active ingredient.
