Most kids enjoy playing outside, but sometimes they have trouble coming up with good things to keep them entertained. Playing games outdoors is a good way for parents and children to interact. According to Disney Family, you can alter many games to accommodate large groups of kids, perhaps for a birthday party or family barbecue.

Races

Having a race is a fun way to play as well as to stay healthy and get some exercise. Relay races are fun with several children. Form two teams, and divide each team in half on opposite ends of the yard. The first two racers hold an item, run to their teammate on the opposite end and hand off the object; the next racer then runs back the other way. This continues until all the players have raced. According to Parents Magazine, you can add to the challenge with a sack race or a three-legged race. Disney Family suggests blindfolding kids--with supervision to prevent injuries--or letting children pull each other on blankets to add some variety to racing games.

Parade

According to Parents Magazine, a backyard parade is a fun outdoor activity. You can even dress up the family dog. Depending on the ages of the children, they can dress up, create floats, play music and dance. You can give the children a theme to follow or just let them create whatever they want using craft supplies such as paper, paint and glitter.

Hopscotch

Hopscotch is a classic game that children of all ages and their parents can play together. All you need is some sidewalk chalk. Draw the hopscotch board as big as you want, and then take turns hopping on the numbered squares. According to Parents Magazine, a fun variation on this outdoor game is to draw shapes other than squares to form the hopscotch board; these could be circles, trucks or clouds.
