Located in the heartland, Indiana is home to more than 30 state parks and reservoirs. All four seasons are experienced throughout the state offering a different camping experience all year round. From fishing in the summertime to ice fishing in the winter, Indiana State Parks make for a great outdoors experience.
Potato Creek State Park
Approximately two hours north of Indianapolis in north central Indiana, Potato Creek State Park surrounds the 327 acre Worster Lake. Potato Creek campgrounds include 17 family cabins, 287 electric campsites, youth tent areas and a camp store. In addition to fishing and boating activities, the park features hiking trails, bridle trails, a mountain bike trail and a playground. Activities for the colder season include cross country skiing, ice fishing and a tubing hill.
Indiana Dunes State Park
A beautiful Indiana landscape, Indiana Dunes State Park is located in the northwest corner of Indiana. Just south of Chicago, Indiana Dunes encompasses more than three miles of beach along beautiful Lake Michigan. In addition to swimming, the park offers more than nine miles of hiking trails, smelt fishing, seasonal cross country skiing, picnic areas and a nature center. Camping is available at 140 electric sites as well as youth tent areas.
Summit Lake State Park
Located a short drive west of Indianapolis, Summit Lake State Park is a favorite destination for fishing. The 2,680-acre park includes 125 electric campsites, a large lake, three boat ramps, a beach as well as a bird watching and wildlife observation area. Activities offered at Summit Lake State Park include fishing, hiking, swimming and boating-- canoe, paddleboat and rowboat rentals available.
Brown County State Park
One of Indiana’s most popular fall destinations, Brown County State Park is located approximately one hour south of Indianapolis. Indiana’s largest state park Brown County campsites include 401 electric and 28 non-electric sites, horsemen sites and youth tent areas. Brown county state park offers hiking trails, mountain bike trails, extensive horse riding facilities, fishing, tennis courts, swimming and an interpretive center. The nearby village of Nashville, Indiana, offers specialty shops, art galleries, entertainment, a golf resort, paintball valley, a dance barn and much more.
Charlestown State Park
One of only two Indiana state parks to offer full hookup campsites, Charlestown State Park is located in Southern Indiana. The park offers 60 full-hookup sites and 132 electric sites. With elevation changes of more than 200 feet, Charlestown offers a challenging and rugged terrain for hikers. In addition to hiking trails the park offers fishing, a playground, bird watching and picnic areas.
