When you lose your hair, you often feel embarrassed and self conscious about how you look. But baldness and bald spots happen to millions of Americans each year. You lose your hair when your hair follicles stop producing the chemical keratin, which is the main chemical you need to grow hair. You can lose your hair from illness, stress, poor nutrition or, most often, heredity. The key to renewing your hair growth is eating protein, hydrating your body and getting the right medication.

Step 1

Put minoxidil on your bald spots to renew hair growth. Minoxidil is an over-the-counter medication that you rub into your scalp to renew hair growth. According to the Mayo Clinic, minoxidil works to renew your hair, although it is not clear exactly how it works.

Step 2

You can ask your doctor for steroid injections. According to Health Communities, steroid injections are the most common treatment for Alopecia areata, a temporary baldness. A doctor uses a small needle to inject the steroid treatment where you want to renew your hair growth; you should see hair growth in a few weeks. The steroid solution stops your cells from damaging themselves so your hair follicles can start producing keratin again, which will renew your hair growth.

Step 3

Fill your diet with protein. Protein provides nutrients that can help your hair follicles renew your hair growth. Protein helps keep your hair and skin looking healthy, and helps your hair follicles begin to produce keratin again. Eat protein like eggs, tofu, yogurt and beans with every meal.

Step 4

Drink water. When your body is dehydrated, you can't get enough nutrients for your hair follicles to produce keratin. According to the Mayo Clinic, you should drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water every day.
