Accu-Chek provides diabetic patients with many products and tools necessary for monitoring and managing the disease. It provides a comprehensive system to test blood glucose, administer insulin, educate patients on the disease and also provide assistance where necessary.
History
Accu-Chek is a brand owned by Roche Diagnostics. Founded in 1896 and based in Indianapolis, Indiana, Roche Diagnostics prides itself on being a front runner in the development of diabetic products. With the creation of the Accu-Chek brand, the company is able to provide testing systems to help diabetics monitor their blood sugar level and manage their disease.
Monitors
Accu-Chek offers several blood glucose monitors for daily blood glucose testing. The Accu-Chek Aviva and Compact Plus are two of the newest models of monitors available. The Accu-Chek Advantage and Accu-Chek Active are older models, though still available. Features of the monitors vary. The Aviva and Compact Plus offer the advantage of using preloaded test strips and lancets, eliminating the need to handle them individually. They give users the ability to download results to their home computer, and they also allow for testing on sites other than the fingertips.
Insulin Pumps
Accu-Chek also offers several insulin pumps, allowing diabetics the freedom to receive insulin around the clock without painful injections. The Spirit Insulin Pump System is the newest insulin pump created by Roche Diagnostics. It features a small pump, about the size of a pager, which holds the largest insulin cartridge of any insulin pump available, allowing users the ability to go longer periods of time between cartridge changes.
Programs
Roche Diagnostics teamed with Direct Relief USA to provide test supplies to diabetic patients without insurance through their Patient Assistance Program. Accu-Chek provides testing supplies to designated clinics and treatment centers across the United States. The clinics then distribute the products to patients in need.
The Accu-Chek Connect prescription discount card program was designed to help lower the cost of testing supplies. Patients can request the enrollment kit on the Accu-Chek website. After activating the card, patients pay a discounted price for test strips, usually no more than $15.
Interactive Tools
Accu-Chek offers several programs to assist diabetic patients in managing the disease, provide supplies to low-income individuals and provide discounts to eligible individuals. Accu-Chek.com offers diabetic patients the opportunity to create and manage meal plans, count carbohydrates and calculate their BMI, all under the Inner Circle section.
