You will find that the fish in Orange Beach bite throughout the year. Whether lounging near the pristine waters in your canoe, sitting on the marina or during a gathering on a yacht, Orange Beach affords plenty of chances to take home a prized fish.

License

An Alabama fishing license is required to fish in the public waters of Orange Beach. Public waters include freshwater or saltwater. Non-residents of the state must obtain a license. An annual fishing license is valid from September 1 to August 31. Alabama has various fishing licenses, including freshwater fishing, spearfishing license, disabled-fishing license and saltwater fishing. Fishing licenses cost in the range of $1 to $24 as of 2010.

Marina Fishing

You can fish along the Gulf Shore in a marina in Orange Beach. The Gulf Shore offers a variety of marinas, including the Outcast Charter Docks Marina, Orange Beach Marina or Romar Marina. These marinas offer dry storage, a store, gas and bait.

Inshore Fishing

Arrange for an inshore fishing trip on a charter boat. Various charter boats set sail along the coast from the beginning of May to the middle of February. You are likely to catch redfish, trout and flounder when you fish inshore within the shallow waters. Capn Jack Charters offers four- to eight-hour inshore fishing trips from $375 to $500 as of 2010.

Offshore Fishing

Arrange to sail further off the shores of Orange Beach into the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico. You may have the opportunity of catching a big game sportsfish, such as yellowfish tuna, blackfin tuna, mackerel or sheepshead. The Orange Beach Fishing Association offers a variety of offshore fishing excursions.

Considerations

While you are fishing, stay clear of booms, working vessels and booming areas. Bring sunscreen, sunglass and a camera. Wear comfort clothing and light soled-shoes. Eat a light breakfast or snack and stay away from heavy food and alcohol.
