Snoring, although annoying, can also be dangerous for your health, according to HealthGuidance article "Exercises to Stop Snoring." Snoring can even lead to strokes or heart attacks. If you are one of the 80 million North Americans who snore, snoring exercises may cut down on your snoring or even cure you.
Open and Close the Mouth
The open and close the mouth exercise is exactly what it sounds like. Simply open your mouth wide and then close it completely, making sure that your lips press together. You should feel your mouth really stretch when you open it so that you are getting it as wide open as possible for you. Do five repetitions and rest briefly in between.
Pucker-Hold-Smile-Hold
The pucker-hold-smile-hold exercise is a combination of two exercises. These snoring exercises may also be done separately. The pucker exercise is just puckering your lips as if about to kiss someone and hold the pucker for five to 10 seconds. To do the smile exercise, smile as big and wide as you can and hold for five to 10 seconds. Do five reps of each exercise and then do the two exercises back to back, resting briefly between each exercise.
Sticking Your Tongue Out
Sticking your tongue out may sound rude, but it is actually a snoring exercise. To do this exercise, stand in front of a mirror and extend your tongue straight out at your reflection. Really reach so it stretches as much as possible. Next, shift your tongue toward the right corner of your mouth. Shift it to the left. Wag your tongue back and forth five times.
Tongue Up and Down
After you practice moving your tongue side to side, work the tongue up and down. Extend the tongue straight out and stretch it forward, then, curl your tongue up as if to touch your nose. Curl the tongue down and try to reach your chin. This exercise may also be done looking into a mirror so you can see your targets. Hold each spot for five seconds and go through the sequence five times.
Ma-La-Ka Exercise
Making different sounds is another snoring prevention exercise. Articulation is important with these exercises so speak quickly but pronounce the entire sound. Begin with the sound "ma." Say "ma" four times quickly. Then, say "la" four times. Next, say "ka" four times and then put "ka" and "la" together to pronounce "kala" four times fast.
Vowels
After warming up your voice with speaking exercises, try singing. Sing the vowels A-E-I-O-U. The sometimes vowel "Y" is not a part of this exercise. You do not have to belt this exercise out as loudly as an opera singer, but do not whisper it either.
