Black bags under the eyes are an annoying condition because they can make you look years older than you actually are. You get black bags under your eyes when you cry, are tired or are dehydrated. Often times, black bags can be hereditary. You get black bags under your eyes when you get older and the elasticity under your skin breaks down, making your skin thinner and darker. You can, however, reduce the black bags under your eyes by eating healthy, making smart choices, and getting your rest.
Step 1
Stop smoking to reduce the black bags under your eyes. When you smoke, you are doing one of the most harmful things you can do to your skin. Cigarettes slowly kill the vitamin C in your skin, which only makes your skin break down faster and causes black bags under your eyes.
Step 2
Brew tea and use the tea bags under your eyes. Tea contains an anti-inflammatory chemical, EGCG, that can reduce the swelling in the black bags under your eyes. The EGCG, when placed on your eyes, can cool and calm your eyes. Brew two tea bags, drain the water in the bags, and place over your eyes for at least 10 minutes.
Step 3
Eat fruits and veggies to reduce the black bags under your eyes. Many fruits and vegetables contain a high amount of vitamin C, which helps increase the rate at which your cells produce, replacing the damaged cells under your eyes that make your eyes black and baggy. Eat foods that are loaded with vitamin C, like oranges, grapefruit, spinach and bananas.
Step 4
Drink water to reduce the black bags under your eyes. If your body is dehydrated, your body will retain what water is currently inside because it doesn't know when it will get water again. This makes you eyes puffy and dark. The Mayo Clinic says you should drink at least eight, 8 oz. glasses of water per day. Also, stay away from drinks that contain caffeine, alcohol and sugar, as those drinks soak up water, making your bags worse.
Step 5
Put an ice pack over your eyes to reduce your black bags. The cold from the ice pack can help reduce the swelling and darkness under your eyes. Lie down on your couch and place an ice pack right over your eyes. Leave on for about 20 minutes. While the ice pack can work to reduce the black bags quickly, it is only a temporary solution.
Step 6
Sleep to reduce your black baggy eyes. The Mayo Clinic says you need at least seven to eight hours of sleep every night. If your body doesn't get enough rest, you greatly reduce your body's ability to recover from the abuse you put it through every day. If your eyes are too tired, they form dark circles beneath from lack of sleep. If you don't have time for seven to eight hours of sleep, try to take a nap during the day, 15 to 20 minutes can help perk you up and reduce your black baggy eyes.
