Aloe vera has the ability to soothe skin by relieving pain and inflammation, while promoting skin repair and new skin production, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Its skin-healing properties make it a natural choice for an ingredient in a facial mask. No need to make an appointment at the spa for an aloe vera facial mask, however, as you can make one in the comfort of your own home.
Step 1
Peel the cucumber with a vegetable peeler and chop it into chunks. Place the chunks into a blender and set it to "puree" for 30 seconds.
Step 2
Measure out 6 tbsp. of the cucumber puree and put it in a glass bowl.
Step 3
Take a large aloe vera leaf from an aloe plant and squeeze out 4 tbsp. of the gel into the bowl with the cucumber juice.
Step 4
Add 2 tbsp. of plain yogurt and mix well with a fork.
Step 5
Secure your hair back away from your face, then wash your face with a gentle soap and rinse with warm water.
Step 6
Apply the aloe vera mask mixture to your face, avoiding your eyelids and the immediate under-eye area.
Step 7
Allow the mask to stay on for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, rinse well with lukewarm water and pat your face dry.
Tips and Warnings
- If you find that you have a lot of the facial mask mix left over, cut the recipe in half in the future. Do not save leftover mixture for future use.
- If you experience redness or irritation when using the aloe vera face mask, wash off immediately and discontinue use.
