Camping Near Ocean Shores, Washington

Long stretches of sandy beach and dense tangles of coastal forests ensure the popularity of Ocean Shores, Wash. With a myriad of recreational opportunities, like horseback riding, beachcombing, kite flying and bird watching, the area around Ocean Shores is ideal for playing outdoors. The beach town itself is a magnet for tourists. There are plenty of places to camp near Ocean Shores and all are ideal bases for exploring the area.

State Parks

Two state parks near Ocean Shores allow camping. Located just 1.5 miles from Ocean Shores, Ocean City State Park holds 149 tent camping sites and 29 sites suitable for RV’s with utility hookups. You can camp year round and group sites are also available. The ocean is a short walk away from the campground.

Eighteen miles north of Ocean Shores, Pacific Beach State Park offers 22 tent sites and 42 RV spaces. The campground does not allow campfires but charcoal or propane grills are allowed. Pacific Beach is a quiet place to camp and many of the sites are located along the beach.

Private Campgrounds

Private campgrounds in the area offer everything from full RV hook-up sites to primitive tent camping sites. The Dunes Beach Resort in Copalis Beach, a 20 minute drive from Ocean Shores, is a family friendly destination with both RV and tent sites. Screamin’ Eagle Campground in Ocean City, just three miles from Ocean Shores, offers large tent and RV camping sites, and has full facilities available for campers to bring and stable their horses to take advantage of riding on the nearby beach.

RV Camping

RV parks dot the area from Ocean Shores to Pacific Beach, several miles north. Several RV parks are located in and around Copalis Beach north of Ocean Shores, including Driftwood Acres near the Griffith Priday wildlife sanctuary. Driftwood Acres offers free firewood for campers. Between Copalis Beach and Ocean Shores, the Blue Pacific Motel and RV Park is located near the beach in Ocean City.

Beach Camping

Camping is not allowed on any of the public beaches near Ocean Shores. Yesterdays RV Park does offer the opportunity for visitors to pitch tents directly on their private stretch of beach.

Activities

Most of the camping sites near Ocean Shores have fire pits, but you can also build a campfire on all of the public beaches. Driving is allowed on the upper part of the beach, but not on the wet sand near the water. Mopeds and go-carts are available to rent in the area. Horseback riding is a popular pastime and is allowed on the beach. There are several companies that offer guided tours and keep their horses corralled on the beach.
